Biography

Rod Bockenfeld

Rodney Joseph Bockenfeld was born on December 9, 1955, in Quincy, Illinois, to Donald and Patricia Bockenfeld. He was born and raised in Quincy before eventually relocating to Colorado. Bockenfeld worked as a retired banker and started his own business, Bockenfeld Financial Group, which he operated for nine years. He also served as president of the Denver chapter of the International Association of Credit Card Investigators.

Education

Bockenfeld graduated from Notre Dame High School, a private Catholic school, in 1974. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement Administration from Western Illinois University. He also attended the University of Colorado Boulder.

District: Colorado House District 56, representing Adams, Arapahoe, Cheyenne, El Paso, Elbert, Kit Carson, and Lincoln counties

Bockenfeld's entry into state politics began in the 1980s and 1990s, when he worked on state House campaigns for Mike Coffman and Bill Owens .

His first elected office was as an Arapahoe County Commissioner in 2004, serving three terms before moving to the state level. In 2018, he was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives, defeating incumbent Republican Phil Covarrubias for House District 56. He represented this district until declining to run for a fourth term in 2024.

During his tenure in the House, Bockenfeld served as a representative for House Republicans on the Joint Budget Committee during the 2023 session and part of the 2024 session. He also served on the Legislative Audit Committee for four years. His legislative work included advocacy for zero-based budgeting and measures supporting first responders, K-12 education, and higher education.
