Rocky De Witt

Rocky L. De Witt was a Republican state senator from Iowa who represented Senate District 1, encompassing most of Sioux City and Lawton. Born on April 12, 1959, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Homer and Orma De Witt, he passed away on June 25, 2025, at age 66 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

De Witt was married to Vicki Gill, whom he married on September 4, 1998, in Silverton, Colorado. He had three sons and was a lifetime member and benefactor of the National Rifle Association. Outside of politics, he enjoyed riding motorcycles.

Education

De Witt graduated from Lawton Bronson High School in 1977.

Political Experience

De Witt served in two primary elected positions:

• Woodbury County Board of Supervisors : Elected to the board in 2016, he won a competitive Republican primary against several candidates. During his tenure and a half, he served as Board Chairman.

• Iowa State Senate : Elected to the Iowa Senate in 2022, De Witt represented Senate District 1 starting in 2023. He defeated a long-standing incumbent to secure the seat, bringing his legislative experience to the state level.
