Biography

Senator Robin Webb

Robin L. Webb was born on September 6, 1960, in Ashland, Kentucky, and currently resides in Grayson, Kentucky. She is a member of the Democratic Party and has represented Senate District 18 since 2009. Her district encompasses Boyd, Carter, and Greenup Counties.

Webb is an attorney, rancher, and Southern Baptist. Early in her career, she worked as a coal miner for Ruth Contracting from 1981 to 1986, becoming the most outstanding mining student at Morehead State University. She has noted the gender barriers she faced entering the mining industry, stating she had to secure her first job "a little deceptively" due to widespread beliefs that women brought bad luck to mine sites.

Education

Webb earned multiple degrees from Kentucky institutions:

  • AAS in Mining Technology from Morehead State University
  • BS in Energy and Reclamation with an emphasis in Underground Mine Safety from Morehead State University
  • JD from Chase College of Law, Northern Kentucky University

She passed the Kentucky Bar in 1986.

Political Experience

Webb served in the Kentucky House of Representatives representing District 96 from 1999 to 2009 before transitioning to the Kentucky State Senate for District 18, where she has served since 2009. Her current term runs through January 1, 2027.

Throughout her legislative career, Webb has held prominent committee positions including the Joint Oversight Committee on Tobacco Settlement Agreement Fund, Natural Resources and Energy Committee, and various budget review subcommittees. She is the Founder and Co-Chair of the Kentucky Sportsman's Caucus and has served as Past President of the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucus. Additional honors include Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Legislator of the Year and AKC Legislator of the Year.

Before her legislative career, Webb worked as an attorney for the Natural Resources Cabinet's Surface Mine Litigation Unit and as General Counsel for AEI Resources, Incorporated . She has maintained her own law practice since 1986.
