Roberto Rivera Ruiz de Porras

Roberto Rivera Ruiz de Porras was born on October 28, 1950, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He is a prominent Puerto Rican politician affiliated with the *Popular Democratic Party *. He is married to María del Carmen Fuentes and has two children.

Education

Rivera holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Caribbean University.

Political Experience

Rivera began his political career in 1989 as a Municipal Legislator in the Autonomous Municipality of Carolina, serving in that position for 12 years until 2000. He entered the Puerto Rico House of Representatives in January 2001, initially representing District 40 . Following redistricting in 2004, he has represented District 39, where he has been consistently re-elected with strong support from his constituents.

During his tenure in the House, Rivera has held several significant positions:

• Served as Chairman of the Banking, Insurance and Financial Affairs Committee during his first term
• Elected by his delegation as Vice President of the Legislative Body in 2012
• Served as Acting President of the House from September to December 31, 2016
• Held the position of Speaker pro tempore since 2013
• Served as Minority Spokesperson on various committees including Municipal Affairs, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Internal Affairs
• Currently serves as Alternate Spokesperson and Chairman of the Majority Committee on Internal Affairs

Rivera was re-elected for his sixth term in November 2020 and continues to represent District 39 in the Puerto Rico House of Representatives.
