Biography

Senator Robert Stivers is a Republican representing Kentucky's 25th Senate District, which includes Clay, Jackson, Knox, Lee, McCreary, Owsley, and Whitley counties. Born December 24, 1961, in Manchester, Kentucky, he has served as a state senator since 1997 and as Senate President since 2013, after holding the role of Senate Majority Floor Leader from 2008 to 2012. He is a practicing attorney and Presbyterian. Notable achievements include being named a Public Official of the Year by Governing Magazine in 2015, Chair of the Southern Legislative Conference in 2016, and Chair of the Council of State Governments in 2018. He currently chairs the Senate Committee on Committees, Rules Committee, and co-chairs the Legislative Research Commission, while serving on the Judiciary and Education Committees.
