Robert J. Smullen is a Republican member of the New York State Assembly representing District 118, which includes all of Hamilton County and parts of Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery, Oneida, and Otsego counties in the Mohawk Valley and Adirondacks region. A retired U.S. Marine Corps Colonel with 24 years of service, including three combat tours in Afghanistan and roles as a Pentagon strategist, he was elected in 2018 after defeating opponents in the primary and general election. Notable achievements include his appointment as a White House Fellow in 2003 by President George W. Bush, serving at the Department of Energy; prior role as Executive Director of the Hudson River-Black River Regulating District; current positions as Chair of the Republican Conference and former Assistant Republican Whip ; and advocacy for lowering taxes, supporting veterans, rural health care, and increasing organ donations. A lifelong upstate New York resident, he lives on Matilda Hill Farm in the Town of Johnstown with his wife Megan and four children, and is a member of the American Legion and Marine Corps League.
