Biography
Robert Garcia is a Democratic Assemblymember representing California's 50th District, which covers parts of San Bernardino County including Rancho Cucamonga. A 48-year-old educator and parent, he has served in the California State Assembly since December 2, 2024, after winning the 2024 election with 56.4% of the vote against Republican Adam Perez. Previously, he was a trustee on the Etiwanda School District Board from 2016 to 2024, including as president during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which the district earned four National Blue Ribbon School awards. He lives in Rancho Cucamonga with his wife and three children.
Education and Political Experience
Garcia spent two decades in education as an elementary school assistant principal, math teacher, and science teacher. In the Assembly, he serves on committees including Natural Resources, Housing and Community Development, Education, Public Employment and Retirement, Select Committee on Climate Innovation and Infrastructure, Select Committee on California-Mexico Bi-National Affairs, Select Committee on Native American Affairs, and Select Committee on Ports and Goods Movement. Notable achievements include initiating 29 bills in his first session and advocacy for education, public service, and community issues.
