Representative Rob Long

Rob Long is a Democratic politician and engineer born on January 13, 1985, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He moved to Florida in 2008 and resides in Delray Beach. He is married to Alexandria "Alex" Ayala-Long. Professionally, Long works as an engineer and is the founder and CEO of DOOR 2 DOOR Strategies, a grassroots community outreach organization established in 2018. He is also the co-author of The Great Weather Diviner, a middle grade novel published in November 2023. Prior to his election to the state legislature, he held various engineering and management roles including positions at Risk Logic Inc., AIG, Stantec, and RS&H.

Education

Long attended Pennsylvania State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 2008. He subsequently attended the University of Florida, graduating with a Master of Business Administration in 2010.

Political Experience

Long began his elected service in 2016 when he won a seat on the Palm Beach County Soil and Water Conservation District for Group 4. He was re-elected to the board in 2020 and served as District Chair from 2017 to 2023. During this period, he also served on the Delray Beach Planning and Zoning Board, where he faced criticism from the City Commission regarding comments on city water quality but remained on the board.

In 2023, Long was elected to the Delray Beach City Commission, defeating incumbent Juli Casale. During his tenure on the Commission, he served as Deputy Vice Mayor from 2023 to 2025 and as Vice Mayor from March 2025 to December 2025.

In 2025, Long announced his candidacy for the Florida House of Representatives to succeed Representative Joseph Casello in District 90. Following Casello's death in July 2025, a special election was triggered. Long won the Democratic nomination unopposed and secured the seat in the general election with 63 percent of the vote. He assumed office on December 9, 2025.
