Biography
Robert J. Kupec is a member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 4 as a member of the *Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party *. District 4 covers most of Clay and Becker Counties. Originally from a small mill town in eastern Connecticut, he moved to Moorhead, Minnesota, in 2000 with his wife Deb, where their son Quinn was born and raised. Before entering politics, Kupec worked as a meteorologist, serving as chief meteorologist at KVRR for a decade and previously at WDAY-TV. He was first elected in 2022, defeating Republican Dan Bohmer with 52.5% of the vote after winning the unopposed DFL primary. Earlier, he ran as a Green Party candidate for the Albany County Legislature in 1999. Notable committee roles include vice chair of the Agriculture, Broadband, and Rural Development Committee, and service on the Health and Human Services, Higher Education, and Labor Committees. His priorities include expanding childcare access, lowering higher education costs, tax relief for seniors, farmers, and young families, supporting K-12 education, funding nursing homes and rural EMS, and stronger railroad safety.
