Biography

Senator Rob Farnsworth – Minnesota Senate

Rob Farnsworth is an American politician who serves as a member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 7. He is a Republican and represents parts of Aitkin, Itasca, and St. Louis counties, including communities on Minnesota’s Iron Range such as Hibbing. Farnsworth grew up in Chisholm, Minnesota, and continues to reside in Hibbing with his wife, Jamie, and their four children.

In addition to his legislative service, Farnsworth maintains a background in education and real estate. He has worked as a teacher for more than two decades, including roles at Mounds View High School in the Twin Cities area and at corrections education programs in Red Wing and Togo. He has also served as a special education teacher within the Hibbing school district. Alongside teaching, he works as a real estate agent with Village Realty.

Education

Farnsworth earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of St. Thomas, where he completed a double major in History and Social Studies. He later obtained a Master of Science degree in Special Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato, which informed his career in special education and teaching.

Political Experience

Farnsworth was first elected to the Minnesota Senate in November 2022, taking office on January 3, 2023. He represents Senate District 7 following redistricting, succeeding the late David Tomassoni, who previously held the seat. Earlier in his political career, he ran unsuccessfully for the Minnesota House of Representatives in District 6A in both 2016 and 2020.

Within the legislature, Farnsworth has served on key committees, including the Senate Committee on Education Finance, reflecting his extensive background in public education. He is also aligned with the Minnesota Senate Republican caucus and advocates for policies affecting his Northland constituents, such as education funding, workforce development, and regional economic issues.
