Biography
Representative Rob Bishop is a Republican politician from Utah who served in the U.S. House of Representatives for Utah’s 1st congressional district from 2003 to 2021. He was born in Kaysville, Utah, on July 13, 1951, and became the dean of Utah’s congressional delegation after Senator Orrin Hatch retired in 2019. Before serving in Congress, Bishop was a Utah State Representative and later served as Speaker of the Utah House of Representatives for his final two years in the state legislature.
Education
Rob Bishop graduated from Davis High School with high honors and later earned a degree in Political Science from the University of Utah, graduating magna cum laude. During his education, he was active in the Teen-age Republicans and the College Republicans.
Political Experience
Bishop’s political career includes service in the Utah House of Representatives from 1978 to 1994, where he eventually became Speaker. He also served as Chair of the Utah Republican Party from 1997 to 2001. In Congress, he represented Utah’s 1st district for 18 years and was recognized as the senior member of Utah’s delegation during his tenure.
