Biography

Rick West is a Republican member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, representing District 3 in LeFlore County. Born in 1953 in Andrews, North Carolina, he has lived in LeFlore County for over 40 years, working as an animal and plant health inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Veterinary Services, owning poultry houses, and raising cattle on his ranch for more than 40 years. He has been married to his wife Jan since 1979, with one son and one grandson, and serves as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Big Creek Baptist Church. A small-government conservative, West passionately defends the Second Amendment, the right to life, and traditional family values. Notable positions include Vice Chair of the Agriculture Committee, and service on Energy and Natural Resources Oversight, Conference Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Oversight, and State Powers committees. He refuses lobbyist or PAC money, opposed a 2019 legislative pay raise by donating the difference to district charities, and has introduced legislation requiring public votes on future legislative pay increases. He opposes new taxes, rural zoning, and government overreach.

Education: Andrews High School ; Bachelor of Science in Biology, Mars Hill University .

Political Experience: First elected to Oklahoma House District 3 in 2016, serving one term until retiring in 2018. Re-elected in November 2020 after winning the primary against predecessor Lundy Kiger; sworn in January 11, 2021. Term limited in 2030.
