Biography
Rick Outman is a Republican state senator representing Michigan's 33rd Senate District, which includes all of Montcalm and Newaygo counties, along with parts of Ionia, Kent, Lake, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties. Born on December 15, 1963, in Lakeview, he is married to Kris, with three children and one grandchild. A U.S. Army veteran who saw combat in Beirut and later served in the Michigan National Guard’s 1073rd Support Maintenance Company in Greenville, Outman owns and operates Outman Excavating, a third-generation small business. He is active in organizations such as the National Rifle Association, Right to Life of Michigan, Montcalm County Farm Bureau, and VFW Post #3701, and has supported local schools through wrestling programs.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of Lakeview Community Schools; earned a Bachelor of Science in teaching from Grand Valley State University.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Michigan House of Representatives for the 70th District in 2010, serving three terms until 2016 . Elected to the Michigan Senate for the 33rd District in 2018; currently serves as Senate Assistant Minority Leader . Notable for legislative effectiveness in his district.
