Biography
Rick L. Olson is a Democratic Iowa State Representative for District 39 in Polk County. Born in 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was raised and still resides, he has served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2005, currently in his seventh term. An attorney by profession, Olson is married to Brenda and has three daughters and three grandsons. Notable affiliations include membership in the Iowa State Bar Association, Polk County Bar Association, Iowa Association for Justice, and Des Moines Elks; he previously served on the board of the Iowa Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association and as a commissioner of the Polk County Magistrate Appointing Commission.
Education and Political Experience
Olson attended Grand View College and earned both his undergraduate degree and J.D. from Drake University. His political career began in 2005 as a Democrat representing Iowa House District 39, with re-elections confirming his ongoing service through multiple terms.
