Biography
Rick Lopes is a Democratic State Senator representing Connecticut's 6th Senate District, which includes Berlin, New Britain, and parts of Farmington. He serves as Deputy Majority Leader and holds key committee roles, including Co-Chair of the Environment Committee and Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee. Notable achievements include his work as a community organizer establishing Connecticut's first Neighborhood Revitalization Zone on Broad Street in New Britain in 1994, and his successful campaigns starting with election to the New Britain City Council in 2003.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned bachelor’s degrees in English literature and sociology, plus a Master’s Degree in Social Work , all from the University of Connecticut.
- Early Career: Community organizer , housing coordinator at American Red Cross, vocational counselor at Chrysalis Center, legislative aide to Sen. Don DeFronzo , and project manager for Department of Administrative Services; owns a property management business since 1993.
