Biography

Rick Allen was born on November 7, 1951, in Augusta, Georgia. He is an American politician and businessman who has served as the Republican U.S. representative for Georgia's 12th congressional district since 2015, following his election in 2014.

The son of a farmer, Allen built his career as an entrepreneur in the construction industry. At age 25, he founded R.W. Allen & Associates, a construction company that he developed over approximately 40 years. His company enhanced economic development in Georgia and created thousands of jobs in the Augusta and Athens communities. In recognition of his business success, Allen received the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year Award in 2008 and was inducted into the CSRA Business Hall of Fame in 2011.

Allen is married to his wife Robin, and they have been married for over 50 years. They reside in Augusta, Georgia.

Education

Allen graduated from Evans High School in Evans, Georgia, in 1969. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction from Auburn University's School of Architecture and Fine Arts in 1973.

Political Experience

Since his election to Congress, Allen has held several significant committee positions. He served on the House Committee on Agriculture for eight years, advocating for farmers and shaping legislation to support Georgia's agricultural industry. Currently, he serves on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which has broad jurisdiction over health care, energy policy, cybersecurity, and telecommunications. He is also a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, which focuses on strengthening schools and expanding workplace opportunities for Americans. Additionally, Allen participates in multiple subcommittees related to health, employment, labor, communications, technology, and innovation.
