Biography

Rich DeLong

Rich DeLong is a Republican member of the Nevada Assembly, representing District 26 since his election in November 2022. He represents parts of Reno and surrounding areas, including the northeast corner of Lake Tahoe, Verdi, Incline Village, Franktown, and parts of South Reno and Pleasant Valley. District 26 leans Republican, with 40 percent Republican registration compared to 27 percent Democrat and 33 percent nonpartisan or other parties.

DeLong was born in Los Angeles, California in 1957. He lives in South Reno with his wife Julie and raises a teenage daughter. He also has three older daughters.

In his 2022 general election campaign, DeLong defeated Libertarian candidate Reed Mitchell with 73 percent of the vote. His primary victory was more competitive, where he secured 34 percent in a three-way Republican race.

Education

DeLong earned a Bachelor of Arts in Geology from California State University, Chico in 1980. He continued his graduate studies at the University of Idaho, where he completed two master's degrees: one in Resource Management and one in Geology .

Political Experience & Career

DeLong is an exploration geologist and environmental consultant with over 40 years of professional experience in the natural resources sector. He moved to Nevada in 1980 and began his career working across several mines throughout the state. He has managed Nevada operations for natural resource development companies and founded his own businesses supporting the exploration and mining industry.

He served as chair of the Nevada Commission on Mineral Resources for seven years, following his appointment to the commission in 2005 by former Governor Kenny Guinn. He was reappointed by three succeeding governors and served a total of 16 years on the commission.

DeLong holds leadership positions in industry organizations, including roles with the American Exploration and Mining Association, the Geological Society of Nevada, and the California Mining Association. He is a member of the Nevada Freedom Caucus and the Nevada Republican Party.
