Biography

Rhett Marques

Rhett Marques is an American politician and businessman born on December 3, 1972, in Spanish Fort, Alabama, a suburb of Mobile. He is a Christian, husband, and father who identifies as a lifelong conservative Republican. Before entering politics, Marques built a career in business, serving as the owner and manager of Goodson Tire & Auto in Enterprise, Alabama. He later sold the business and became employed with Jim Whaley Tires, Inc. in 2023.

Education

Marques graduated from Fairhope High School in 1990 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from the University of Alabama in 1994.

Political Experience

Marques has served as a Republican member of the Alabama House of Representatives representing District 91 since assuming office on November 7, 2018. He won his initial election in 2018 through a Republican primary runoff followed by the general election. In his 2022 re-election bid, he received an impressive 98.5% of the vote in the general election.

During his tenure in the state legislature, Marques has held several committee assignments, including membership on the House Health Committee and service as Vice Chair of the Commerce and Small Business Committee during the 2023-2024 legislative session. He has also served on the Fiscal Responsibility Committee in previous terms.

Among his notable legislative achievements, Marques voted to increase Alabama's state fuel tax as part of the Rebuild Alabama Act in 2019. Additionally, he has championed military-friendly policies, sponsoring and supporting legislation that includes an insurance exemption for active duty servicemembers, which was signed into law by Governor Kay Ivey in 2023.

In August 2025, Marques announced his candidacy for U.S. Congress, seeking the 2026 Republican nomination for Alabama's 1st Congressional District, with the primary election scheduled for May 26, 2026.
