Biography

Regina Weiss is a Democratic State Representative serving Michigan's 5th House District, which includes northwest Detroit, Oak Park, and all of Royal Oak Township. Born on July 7, 1986, in Chicago, Illinois, she is married to Laren Weiss and resides in Oak Park. A former high school English and Social Studies teacher in the Detroit Public Schools Community District, she is currently in her third term, having been elected in 2020, reelected in 2022 for District 6, and again in 2024 for District 5. Notable achievements include her advocacy for increased community investments, education policy improvements, and leadership as Chair of the Michigan Legislative Labor Caucus; she is also a former AFL-CIO Advocate Member and member of the American Federation of Teachers .

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Earned a B.A. in History and Secondary Education from Valparaiso University in 2009.
  • Early Career: Served two years as an AmeriCorps member; taught in Detroit Public Schools; worked as Program Director and Secretary for the Tri-Community Coalition .
