Biography
Reggie Smith is a Republican who represented Texas House District 62 from November 2018 to January 2025. Born Reginald Beets Smith Jr. on February 4, 1969, he resides in Van Alstyne, Texas, with his wife Stephany and their three children. A descendant of a 6th-generation Grayson County pioneer family, Smith is an attorney and founder of Reginald B. Smith, Jr. PLLC, established in 2003. Prior to his legislative service, he served two terms as chairman of the Grayson County Republican Party and as Northern Regional Director of the Texas Republican County Chairman’s Association, contributing to the county's shift from Democrat to Republican dominance. He was defeated in the March 5, 2024 Republican primary by Shelley Luther and succeeded by her.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Bachelor of Science from Austin College; Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law.
- Political Experience: Elected to Texas House District 62 in 2018, serving through the 88th Legislature . Appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Elections and member of the House Committee on Public Health during the 88th Session. Championed conservative priorities including pro-life policies, tax reductions, Second Amendment rights, election integrity, secure borders, and support for public education and teachers. NRA member with over two decades in conservative activism.
