Biography
A. Reece Pyrtle, Jr., known as Reece Pyrtle, is a Republican representing District 65 in the North Carolina House of Representatives. A lifelong resident of Rockingham County, he was appointed to the House on August 18, 2021, to fill a vacancy following the death of Rep. Jerry Carter and was elected in 2022. Previously retired as Chief of Police for the City of Eden , he served as a twice-elected Rockingham County Commissioner , currently as Vice Chair. Notable positions include Chair of the State Personnel Committee and service on key committees such as Appropriations , Families, Children, and Aging Policy, Health, and Judiciary II.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Morehead High School in Eden ; Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Appalachian State University .
- Early Career: Joined Eden Police Department in 1990, advancing through various roles before becoming Chief of Police.

- Appointed to NC House District 65 ; elected 2022; serving 2025-2026 session.
