Biography
Rebecca Perkins Kwoka is a Democratic State Senator representing District 21 in New Hampshire, based in Portsmouth. She made history as the first openly LGBTQ woman elected to the New Hampshire legislature and was unanimously elected as the Senate Democratic Leader by the Democratic Caucus. A mom, green energy lawyer, and lifelong Granite Stater, she lives with her wife, Katelyn, and their daughter, Logan. Her advocacy focuses on affordable housing, energy, voting rights, workforce development, reproductive rights, supporting working families, and small businesses.
Education and Political Experience
- Served two terms on the Portsmouth City Council, where she achieved comprehensive zoning changes for affordable housing.
- Spent over a decade in affordable housing advocacy, including as a Commissioner of the Portsmouth Housing Authority, on the Rockingham Planning Commission, Planning Board, and Workforce Housing Coalition; founded the 603 Initiative to retain young people in New Hampshire.
- Served two years with the Peace Corps in Senegal.
- Currently Senior Vice President and General Counsel at ReWild Renewables, a solar company in Portsmouth.
- Graduate of Leadership New Hampshire and Leadership Seacoast; recognized in New Hampshire Business Review, NHPR's The Exchange, and as a member of the class of 40 under 40.
- As Senator, led legislation expanding housing and rental assistance, COVID relief for small businesses and venues, investments in offshore wind energy, and workplace protections for nursing mothers.
