Biography
Senator Ray Seigfried ** represents **Delaware Senate District 5, which spans from Claymont to Talleyville, including parts of Brandywine Hundred and the Ardens. A Democrat, he was elected to the Senate on February 15, 2025, and currently serves on committees including Chair of Corrections & Public Safety, and as a member of Banking, Business, Insurance & Technology; Environment, Energy & Transportation; Health & Social Services; and Veterans Affairs. Notable achievements include sponsoring legislation for affordable pharmaceuticals, improving developmental disabilities services, protecting federal workers, and establishing the Delaware Health Insurance Individual Market Stabilization Reinsurance Program. He chairs task forces on state charter changes and Cure Violence to reduce gun violence, is a founding member of RISE Delaware for health insurance protection, and serves on the Wilmington Hope Commission and Arden Community Planning Committee.
Education and Political Experience
After 25 years at ChristianaCare, Seigfried transitioned to teaching health policy, finance, and business full-time at Arcadia University’s School of Global Business. Politically, he was elected to the Delaware House of Representatives in 2018, serving until 2020 as vice chair of the Health and Human Development Committee. He currently holds the Senate seat through November 4, 2026.
