Biography
Ray Reed - Missouri House Representative
Ray Reed is an American politician representing Missouri House District 83, a position he has held since his election in 2024. He was born in Brentwood, Missouri, and currently resides in St. Louis, Missouri.
Reed made history as the first African American to represent Missouri House District 83 and serves as the only Black man from St. Louis County in the Missouri House. His district encompasses the St. Louis area, including Brentwood, Maplewood, Richmond Heights, Shrewsbury, and parts of Affton.
Personally, Reed has a diverse, multicultural background—his wife, Natalia, is from Mexico, which has informed his advocacy on immigration issues. He was notably the first Missouri Democrat to speak out against the Trump Administration's immigration policies. Through his work with the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus, he has hosted students from Harris-Stowe State University and Lincoln University at the Capitol to inspire the next generation of leaders of color.
In the legislature, Reed has been a vocal advocate for his district's priorities. He has opposed Governor Kehoe's proposed income tax elimination, restrictions on reproductive freedom, and efforts to divert public funds to private school voucher programs. Colleagues describe him as prepared, thoughtful, and someone ready to engage meaningfully in committee hearings and floor debates.
Education
Reed earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from the University of Central Missouri, graduating in 2018.
