Biography
Representative Ray Lopez
Reynaldo T. Lopez is a Democratic state representative from San Antonio, Texas, currently serving House District 125. Born December 5, 1949, he is 76 years old and retired. His district encompasses much of San Antonio's culturally diverse West and Northwest Sides, including the City of Leon Valley and portions of Bexar County, with over 170,000 residents, many of whom are military or civil service employees.
Education and Early Career
Following high school, Lopez joined the United States Armed Forces, where he served 14 years in the Army Reserve. He has built a career centered on public service and education advocacy throughout his life.
Political Experience
Lopez's public service career includes:
- School Board Service : Elected to the North Side Independent School District's Board of Trustees, where he served as Board President and championed public education
- San Antonio City Council : Represented Council District 6 for four consecutive terms until reaching his term limit. During his tenure, he helped establish the Alicia Trevino Lopez Senior Center, supported the expansion of PreK-4-SA campuses across San Antonio, and consistently voted based on his values and constituent interests
- Texas House of Representatives : First elected to House District 125 in 2018 for the 86th Legislature. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Homeland Security, Public Safety & Veterans' Affairs Committee and serves on the Land & Resource Management Committee
Recognition and Achievements
Lopez has received wide recognition for his professional and civic accomplishments, including being named to AT&T's Leaders Council & Circle of Excellence and being inducted into the Harlandale Independent School District Hall of Fame for his lifelong work in education and community service.
