Raul Ruiz (CA-25)

Biography

Raul Ruiz, M.D., born on August 25, 1972, in Zacatecas City, Mexico, is a Democratic U.S. Representative serving California's 25th Congressional District. Raised in Coachella, California, by farmworker parents, Dr. Ruiz pursued a career in medicine and public service. He worked as an emergency room physician at Eisenhower Medical Center and founded the Coachella Valley Healthcare Initiative to address local healthcare challenges. In 2012, he was elected to Congress, becoming the first Latino to represent the Coachella Valley. Dr. Ruiz resides in Indio, California, with his wife, Monica, and their twin daughters, Sky and Sage.

Dr. Ruiz was the first Latino to earn three graduate degrees from Harvard University.

Dr. Ruiz has been recognized for his humanitarian efforts, including receiving the Commander's Award for Public Service from the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division for his work in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake.
