Biography

Raúl Labrador

Raúl Rafael Labrador was born on December 8, 1967, in Carolina, Puerto Rico. He was raised in a single-parent home where his mother emphasized the value of education despite financial struggles. Labrador's path to public service was shaped by mentorship from community leaders. He became an Eagle Scout and worked various jobs throughout his youth, including delivering newspapers, working in restaurants, and teaching Spanish to missionaries, all while pursuing his education.

Labrador is a family man who resides in Eagle, Idaho, with his wife Rebecca. They have five children and two grandchildren.

Education

Labrador earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Brigham Young University. He later attended the University of Washington School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree.

Following law school, Labrador interned with the Criminal Division of a United States Attorney's Office and served as a law clerk for the United States Court for the District of Idaho.

Political Experience

State Level
Labrador was elected to the Idaho House of Representatives in 2006, representing the 14B district. He served two terms in the state legislature until 2010, during which time he became an advocate for protecting taxpayers and successfully worked to defeat tax increases he believed would harm Idaho's economy.

Congressional Service
Labrador was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010, representing Idaho's 1st congressional district. He served four terms from 2011 to 2019. During his congressional career, he:
- Served on the influential Judiciary Committee
- Chaired the Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security
- Co-founded the House Freedom Caucus alongside notable conservative leaders including Ron DeSantis, Jim Jordan, and Mark Meadows
- Advocated for immigration enforcement, border security, Second Amendment rights, and fiscal responsibility
- Earned a nearly 96% conservative rating from the American Conservative Union
- Received multiple 100% ratings from the Family Research Council and National Right to Life
- Earned "A" ratings from the National Rifle Association
- Received a 100% rating from the Gun Owners of America and the National Shooting Sports Foundation
- Was recognized as a Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business

Republican Party Leadership
Labrador chaired the Idaho Republican Party from 2019 to 2020.

Current Position
Labrador has served as Idaho's 33rd Attorney General since January 2, 2023. He was elected to his first term on November 8, 2022, defeating both incumbent Lawrence Wasden in the Republican primary with 51.6% of the vote and Democrat Tom Arkoosh in the general election with 62.6% of the vote.

As Attorney General, Labrador focuses on defending Idaho's sovereignty against federal overreach, protecting individual liberties, ensuring government transparency, and advancing policies rooted in conservative constitutional principles.

Private Practice
Prior to his current role, Labrador founded and managed a law firm with offices in Boise and Nampa, specializing in immigration and criminal law.
