Biography

Senator Randy Robertson

Wiley "Randy" Randall Robertson is a Republican State Senator representing Senate District 29 in Georgia, which includes Harris, Meriwether, and Troup Counties and a portion of Muscogee County. Born on October 6, 1962, Robertson was sworn into the Georgia Senate on January 14, 2019, and is currently serving his third term.

Robertson is married to Theresa Garcia Robertson and has three children: Sara, Seth, and Andee. He is also a grandfather of four granddaughters. The Robertson family are members of the First Baptist Church in Columbus and reside in Cataula, Georgia.

Education and Training

Robertson's educational background reflects a strong commitment to law enforcement excellence. He attended schools in the Harris County public school system and continued his advanced education at Columbus State University, where he completed Command College. His professional training includes attendance at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, as well as programs at Harvard University's School of Public Health, The Cooper Institute in Dallas, Texas, and the Force Science Institute in Mankato, Minnesota.

Political Experience and Positions

Robertson brings over three decades of public service to his legislative role. He served with the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office for 30 years, retiring in 2015 at the rank of Major and Bureau Commander. He also served as Director of Homeland Security for the City of Columbus.

In the Georgia Senate, Robertson holds several significant positions and committee memberships:

  • Majority Whip of the Senate Majority Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Senate leadership
  • Secretary on the Public Safety Committee
  • Member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Committee on State and Local Government, Ethics Committee, Committee on Families and Children, Rules Committee, and Committee on Insurance and Labor
  • Ex-officio member of the Government Oversight Committee

Robertson has chaired multiple Senate and Joint Study Committees focused on homelessness, electric vehicle expansion and regulation, felons' rights post-conviction, and foster care and adoption issues in Georgia. He was recognized as one of Georgia's most effective legislators during the 2023-2024 biennium, receiving an effectiveness score of 3.11—more than three times the legislative average.

Outside the legislature, Robertson is the Past President of the Georgia Fraternal Order of Police and remains active in civic and political issues, with a focus on public safety, infrastructure development, educational excellence, and fostering entrepreneurship and small business growth.
