Biography

Representative Ramón Romero Jr.

Ramón Romero Jr. is a Democratic state representative serving House District 90 in Fort Worth, Texas. Born in Fort Worth on July 15, 1975, he is the son of Mexican immigrant parents from Zacatecas, Mexico, who came to the United States in the 1960s. A lifelong resident of East Fort Worth, Romero continues to live in the neighborhood where he grew up. He is the father of four children—Lindsay, Lauren, Giovanni, and Ramon—and a grandfather to four.

In his early twenties, Romero founded A-Fast Tile & Coping, which he grew into a thriving business employing over 60 people, many from his neighborhood. He currently serves as CEO of A-Fast Tile & Coping, Stone Mason Supply, and Ramon Romero Construction.

Education

Romero attended Tarrant County College.

Political Experience

Romero's public service began in the 2000s when he worked alongside the Fort Worth City Council, earning appointments to the Fort Worth Zoning Commission and chairing the Planning Commission during a period of rapid growth in the city. He ran unsuccessfully for Fort Worth City Council in 2012 but remained determined to serve his community.

In 2014, Romero ran for State Representative, making history by defeating an 18-year incumbent in the Democratic Primary and becoming the first Latino State Representative from Tarrant County. He was honored as 2015 Democratic Freshman of the Year following his successful first legislative session. Currently in his sixth term, Romero has served since 2015 and was unopposed in the 2022 and 2024 elections.

Romero currently serves as Chair of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus and sits on the House Committees on Calendars, Natural Resources, and Licensing & Administrative Procedures. Throughout his tenure, he has championed legislation on human trafficking, government transparency, workforce development, mental health, criminal justice reform, and veterans' support.
