Biography

Representative Ramon A. Perez

Ramon A. Perez Jr. is a Democratic member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives representing District 13, which includes Providence and Johnston. Born on November 20, 1971, Perez is a community activist and business owner.

Perez was raised in the El Millon section of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, where he graduated from high school in 1990. He resides in Providence with his wife, Mayra.

Education

Perez studied at Universidad Metropolitana in Puerto Rico from 1993 to 1995.

Political Experience

Perez was first elected to the House of Representatives in November 2016 and was reelected in November 2020. He currently serves on three House committees: the Special Legislation Committee, the Labor Committee, and the Education Committee.

Prior to his House service, Perez ran for the State Senate seat in District 2 in both 2012 and 2014, though he was unsuccessful in those campaigns.

In 2025, Representative Perez introduced a House resolution condemning President Trump's executive order banning birthright citizenship, asserting that the 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to people born in the United States regardless of their parents' immigration or citizenship status.

Professional Background

Perez is the owner of New England Taxi and is a founding member of the Taxi Driver Union in Providence.
