Biography
Raghib Allie-Brennan is a Democratic state representative for Connecticut's 2nd Assembly District, encompassing Bethel and parts of Danbury. Currently in his fourth term as Chief Majority Whip, he was first elected in 2018 and assumed office in 2019, with his term ending in 2027. Born on July 20, 1991, in Queens, New York, and raised in Bethel, he is the son of a small business owner who immigrated from Guyana; he resides in Bethel and is an openly gay advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Bethel High School in 2009; earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Marymount Manhattan College in 2013.
- Early Career: Served as a congressional policy advisor in the U.S. House of Representatives, focusing on energy, environmental policy, disaster relief, and civil rights.
- Political Roles and Achievements:
- Serves on Energy and Technology, General Law, and Insurance and Real Estate Committees; Vice Chair of Energy & Technology; House Regional Energy Policy Liaison for New England.
- Leadership positions: Deputy Majority Leader , Assistant Majority Whip , Assistant Majority Leader .
- Key initiatives: Advanced renewable energy , utility oversight post-Tropical Storm Isaias, protections for domestic violence survivors, small businesses, and overdevelopment opposition; member of National Conference of State Legislatures’ Nuclear Legislative Working Group and legislature’s Moderate Caucus.
