Biography

Rachelle Smit is a Republican representing Michigan's 43rd House District, which includes most of Allegan County , parts of Barry County, Bellevue in Eaton County, and part of Jamestown Township in Ottawa County. Born on September 16, 1980, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, she was first elected in November 2022 and reelected on November 5, 2024, beginning her second term on January 2, 2025. She lives in Shelbyville with her husband Dave, married since 1999; they have three adopted sons and have fostered several other children, and together they partner in their family dairy farm, Peaceful Road Farms. A Christian with strong conservative values, she enjoys outdoor activities like golf and hiking. Notable achievements include unanimous election as Speaker Pro Tempore for the 2025-2026 session , Chair of the House Election Integrity Committee, and member of the Legislative Council.
