Biography
Anne "Pinny" Beebe-Center is a Democratic Senator representing Senate District 12 in Maine, which covers Knox County communities including Appleton, Camden, Criehaven UT, Cushing, Friendship, Hope, Matinicus Isle Plantation, Muscle Ridge Islands UT, North Haven, Owls Head, Rockland, Rockport, Saint George, South Thomaston, Thomaston, Union, Vinalhaven, and Warren. Born November 22 in Salem, Massachusetts , she moved to Maine as a child due to her father's U.S. Coast Guard service in Rockland and South Portland, later settling in Yarmouth. A long-time Rockland resident since 1975, she has dedicated her career to public service, including founding the Knox County Homeless Coalition during the Great Recession to address family homelessness by rehabilitating a shelter. Notable positions include Chair of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee and member of the State and Local Government Committee. Her priorities encompass healthcare access, reproductive health, mental health and addiction support, equitable school funding, climate action, marine resource protection, and criminal justice reform.
Education and Political Experience
- Education and Professional Background: Worked as a teacher at the Riley School; employed by the State of Maine in the Department of Education and Department of Transportation; served as Regional Manager for Penquis Community Action Program.
- Political Experience: Knox County Commissioner for eight years; Maine State Representative for District 93 ; elected to Maine Senate District 12 in 2022, sworn in for her second term by 2026 . Ran successfully in the 2024 election against Republican Scott Rocknak.
