Biography
Phillip Ensler is a Democratic member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing District 74 since his election in November 2022. An attorney and community leader, he serves as Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Central Alabama and has focused on issues like public health, public safety, education, access to justice, and criminal justice reform. In July 2025, he announced he would not seek re-election and planned to relocate to New York, his home state.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Cardozo School of Law in 2017 and is a member of the Alabama Bar. Earned his undergraduate degree from George Washington University, where he interned at the White House.
- Early Career: Taught social studies as a Teach for America corps member at former Lee High School in Montgomery, starting a mentorship program in 2012 that continues annually, taking students to Washington, D.C., and New York City.
- Professional Roles: Policy Counsel at Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice; Senior Policy Advisor at the City of Montgomery.
- Political Achievements: Elected to Alabama House District 74 in 2022; as of 2026, running for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama.
