Phil Pouech

Phil Pouech is a Democratic member of the Vermont House of Representatives, representing the Chittenden-4 District since 2023. Born in 1957, he grew up in Enfield, Connecticut, before moving to Hinesburg, Vermont, with his young family, where he has resided for over 40 years. His parents did not graduate from high school, but his father was able to pursue a college degree through the GI Bill, which enabled the family to become first-time homeowners—an experience that shaped Phil's perspective on the role of government in supporting families and veterans.

Education

Phil holds a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from Unity College in Maine, along with numerous post-graduate certificates in professional and technical areas. His college academic focus was renewable energy, which was a rare field of study in the 1970s.

Political Experience

Phil's public service career includes extensive involvement in local and state governance. After graduating from the Snelling Vermont Leadership Institute in 2011, he was elected to the Hinesburg Selectboard, where he served for 12 years, including five years as Chair. He is also a commissioner on the Green Mountain Transit Board. Additionally, he has coordinated Hinesburg's Green Up Day for 25 years and has been an active member of the United Church of Hinesburg, supporting community and family initiatives.

Phil spent 40 years in high-tech manufacturing, including engineering, environmental and pollution prevention, quality, safety, and management roles. His final 18 years of professional work focused on Vermont renewable energy companies, allowing him to return to his passion for renewable energy. While employed by Vermont manufacturing firms, he served as a community advisor for Vermont Technical School's Mechanical Engineering Program and helped with hiring decisions for over 20 Vermont Tech graduates.
