Biography
Phil Plummer is a Republican state representative serving Ohio's 39th House District, which includes portions of Montgomery County. He is currently in his fourth term, serves as Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore for the 136th General Assembly, and chairs the Montgomery County Republican Party. Previously, he was Sheriff of Montgomery County from 2008 to 2018, resigning to join the Ohio House in 2019. Notable roles include Vice Chair of the Criminal Justice Committee in 2019 and service on General Government, Finance, Judiciary, and Public Safety committees. He resides in Dayton with his wife Cindy and is active in his local church and community.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Born and raised in Montgomery County, Plummer graduated from Chaminade Julienne High School. He earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Toledo and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. He completed executive training from the FBI National Academy, FBI National Executive Institute, and Secret Service Executive Leadership Academy.
- Political Experience: Began career in law enforcement, advancing to Major , head of Personnel , and Chief Deputy in the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office before his appointment as Sheriff in 2008. Elected to the Ohio House in 2018 for the 40th District , winning uncontested primary and serving since January 2019.
