Biography
Phil Olaleye is a Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives for District 59, which includes parts of Atlanta and East Point. Elected in November 2022 and taking office in January 2023, he serves as Executive Director of Next Generation Men & Women , a nonprofit providing career exposure and mentorship to high school students. He grew up in a working-class immigrant family in Stone Mountain, Georgia, where he worked at Waffle House and Best Buy to support his single mother while commuting long distances for education. Olaleye lives in the Summerhill neighborhood with his wife, Sabrina Gómez, and their two sons, August and Antony. Notable achievements include recognition as a Georgia Trend 40 Under 40 and Atlanta Business Chronicle 40 Under 40 honoree, and as former president of the Organized Neighbors of Summerhill, where he led initiatives securing neighborhood security cameras, park projects, and legislation limiting development impacts.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a bachelor's degree from Duke University in 2007 and a Master of Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School in 2014.
- Professional Experience: Served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines; Director of Performance Management at WorkSource Atlanta, aiding job seekers; and Executive Director of Next Generation Men & Women, expanding it from 50 to nearly 400 students across six Atlanta high schools with partnerships at 70 colleges and companies.
