Biography

Senator Peter Wirth is a Democrat representing District 25 in Santa Fe County, New Mexico. Born on December 3, 1961, in Stanford, California, he has deep New Mexico roots through his family, including his maternal grandfather John Gaw Meem, a prominent architect, and his late father John Wirth, a historian born in Dawson, New Mexico. He resides in Santa Fe and is an Episcopalian. As a practicing attorney specializing in mediation and alternative dispute resolution at Sawtell Wirth and Biedscheid, P.C. since 2004, Wirth has served as Senate Majority Floor Leader since 2017 and is a member of key committees including Judiciary, Legislative Council, Legislative Finance, Revenue Stabilization & Tax Policy, and Tax, Business and Transportation.
