Biography

Peter K. Oberacker Jr., born on May 13, 1963, in Merrick, New York, is a Republican politician serving as the State Senator for New York's 51st District. He was first elected to the State Senate in 2020, succeeding longtime incumbent James Seward, and has been re-elected twice, most recently in 2024. The 51st District encompasses all of Delaware, Otsego, Schoharie, and Sullivan counties, as well as parts of Broome, Chenango, and Ulster counties.

Before his tenure in the State Senate, Oberacker served on the Otsego County Board of Representatives, where he chaired the Public Works Committee and was vice-chair of the Administration Committee. He also held positions on the Human Services, Negotiations, and Inter-Governmental Affairs committees. Earlier, he was the Town Supervisor for Maryland, New York, and a member of the town board.

In the private sector, Oberacker founded FormTech Solutions in 2007, a company specializing in product research and development within the food industry. Under his leadership, FormTech grew into a successful multi-million dollar business, collaborating with major companies worldwide to develop and implement innovative food products.

A dedicated community member, Oberacker is actively involved in his local fire department and EMS squad and is a member of the Masonic Lodge. He resides in Schenevus, New York, with his wife Shannon, his high school sweetheart, and they have two adult children.
