Biography
Senator Pete Flores
Peter 'Pete' P. Flores is a Republican representing Senate District 24 in the Texas State Senate. He resides in Pleasanton, Texas, with his wife, Elizabeth, and has two adult daughters and two grandsons.
Flores had a distinguished 27-year career with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, rising to the rank of Colonel and serving as the first Hispanic Director of Law Enforcement for the department. In this role, he managed a $60 million budget, oversaw 27 field offices, supervised over 700 employees, and commanded operations across land, sea, and air. He honorably retired from state service in 2012.
Education
Flores grew up in South Texas, graduating from high school in Laredo and attending Laredo Junior College before graduating from Texas A&M University. He is also a graduate of the Governor's Executive Development Program and completed the National Conservation Leadership Institute's Fellowship Program.
Political Experience
Flores was first elected to the Texas State Senate in a special election in 2018, becoming the first Hispanic Republican in the Texas Senate. He was reelected in 2022 to represent District 24, which includes Atascosa, Bandera, Bell, Burnet, Coryell, Gillespie, Kerr, Kimble, Lampasas, Llano, Medina, Sutton, and Williamson counties.
In the Senate, Flores currently serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice and holds Vice-Chair positions on the Border Security and Disaster Preparedness and Flooding committees. He also serves on the Finance, Education, and Water, Agriculture, and Rural Affairs committees. In March 2024, he co-founded the Texas Hispanic Republican Caucus to amplify the voices and priorities of conservative Hispanics across the state.
