Biography
Perry A. Stambaugh
Perry A. Stambaugh is a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives representing District 86, which serves Perry County and most of Juniata County. Born on March 8, 1960, in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Stambaugh is the sixth generation to grow up on his family's farm in Green Park, Tyrone Township, Perry County. He owns and operates a 200-acre bicentennial family farm and is deeply rooted in his rural community.
Before his election to the state House in 2020, Stambaugh spent nearly 40 years working as a rural and agricultural magazine editor at local, statewide, and national levels. His editorial career included positions with Pennsylvania Farmer magazine , Penn Lines magazine published by the Pennsylvania Rural Electric Association , and RE Magazine produced by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association . He also served as director of communications and senior director of publications for rural electric cooperatives.
Education
Stambaugh graduated from West Perry High School in 1978 and earned his degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1982.
Political Experience
Stambaugh has maintained a long history of political involvement. He served as a Tyrone Township Republican Committeeperson since 1990, chairman of the Perry County Republican Committee from 2002 to 2008, and as a member of the Republican State Committee from 1996 to 2010 and again from 2012 to 2014. He was a founding member of the Pennsylvania Freedom Caucus.
In his current legislative role, Stambaugh sits on the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Energy, Finance, and Transportation committees. He serves as Republican vice chairman of the Energy Committee and Republican chairman of the Transportation Subcommittee on Public Transportation. His policy priorities include expanding high-speed Internet access to rural areas, implementing state legislative and congressional term limits, electing state appellate judges on a district basis rather than statewide, and eliminating property taxes as a funding mechanism for schools.
Stambaugh is an Eagle Scout and active in numerous community organizations, including the Perry County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Perry County Chamber of Commerce, Landisburg Lions Club, and the Historical Society of Perry County. He has two adult sons and six grandchildren.
