Biography
Percy W. Watson is a Democratic member of the Mississippi House of Representatives representing District 103 . A native of Hattiesburg, he is an attorney in private practice since 1976 and has served over 40 years in the legislature, currently in his 10th term after first being elected in 1979.
Notable achievements include chairing the House Ways & Means Committee, serving as vice chairman of the House Ethics Committee, and membership on the Judiciary, PEER, and Appropriations committees. He also served 12 years on the Joint Legislative Budget Committee.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Hattiesburg Public Schools; Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Iowa; first accelerated program graduate from the University of Iowa College of Law; additional studies at the University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey College. Member of the Iowa, Alaska, and Mississippi Bar Associations.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Mississippi House in November 1979; re-elected in 10 subsequent elections; long-term service on key committees including former chair of Ways & Means and vice chair of Ethics.
