Biography
Margaret "Peggy" Rotundo is a Democratic state senator representing District 21 in the Maine State Senate, which encompasses Lewiston in Androscoggin County. Born on July 16, 1949, she has served nearly three decades in public service, including six nonconsecutive terms in the Senate and four terms in the House . Notable achievements include chairing the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee, overseeing state budget negotiations, and appointments to commissions on tax reform, education, rail transport, freedom of information, Native American issues, and budget reform. She represented Maine on the Education Commission of the States, sponsored bills enhancing government transparency, environmental protection, and education access, and advocated for health care, prescription drug coverage, property tax relief, veterans, children, the elderly, immigrants, and working mothers. In January 2026, she announced she will not seek reelection.
