Education

Paul J. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from North Dakota State University .

Political Experience

Thomas has served in the North Dakota legislature since 2025, representing District 6 in the Senate. Prior to his Senate election, he served in the House of Representatives from 2021 to 2024.

His community involvement includes past service on the Velva City Commission and the Velva Sales Tax Committee. He is also affiliated with the North Dakota Corn Growers Association, the North Dakota Farm Bureau, the Drake Knights of Columbus, and St. Cecelia Catholic Church.

In the 2025 legislative session, Thomas voted to lower the number of years required for teachers to obtain a lifetime teaching license, a position supported by North Dakota United.
