Biography
Paul Novotny is a Republican member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 30B in east-central Minnesota, including the cities of Elk River and Otsego, and parts of Anoka, Sherburne, and Wright Counties. Born on May 26, 1966, he grew up on a dairy farm in Elk River and works in law enforcement. He is married to Nicole and has two children. Novotny was first elected in a special election on February 4, 2020, following the resignation of incumbent Nick Zerwas, and has been reelected since, currently serving his fourth term. Notable positions include Co-Chair of the Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee, and service on Ways and Means, Higher Education Finance and Policy, and Judiciary Finance and Civil Law committees; he previously served as Assistant Republican Leader . He opposes ending qualified immunity for police and banning no-knock warrants.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: A.A.S. in law enforcement from North Hennepin Community College.
