Biography
Paul W. Mark is a Democratic member of the Massachusetts State Senate representing the Berkshire, Hampden, Franklin, and Hampshire District, which spans 57 cities and towns across these counties. Elected to the State House in 2010 for the 2nd Berkshire District, he served until 2022 before transitioning to the Senate in 2023. A former blue-collar worker, Mark spent over a decade as a splice-service technician at Verizon Communications while earning multiple degrees. He is an outspoken advocate for progressive, working-class issues and serves as Co-Chair of the Tourism, Arts, and Cultural Development Committee. Admitted to the Massachusetts bar since 2009, he is also active in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, holding roles like steward, political director, press secretary, and executive board member.
Education
Mark earned an associate degree in telecommunications from Springfield Technical Community College, a bachelor's degree in economics and finance from Southern New Hampshire University, a master's degree in labor relations studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School, and a doctorate in law and policy from Northeastern University. He completed these degrees part-time while working full-time and commuting.
