Biography

Senator Paul A. Lowe Jr.

Paul A. Lowe Jr. was born on May 19, 1959, and is a Democratic politician representing North Carolina Senate District 32, which includes Forsyth County. He was first appointed to the Senate in 2015 to fill a vacancy left by Earline W. Parmon's resignation.

Beyond his legislative role, Lowe has served as Senior Pastor at Shiloh Baptist Church in Winston-Salem since 1991. He comes from a long line of clergy members and has been guided by the principle of "Do Justice, Love Mercy and Walk Humbly" throughout his life of service.

Lowe is married to the former LaGail Crews, a retired Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, a 33rd degree mason, and is active in various civic and fraternal organizations.

Political Experience

Since his appointment in 2015, Lowe has focused on economic development, job creation, and community needs in Forsyth County and North Carolina. Early in his legislative career, he introduced bills to revive tax credits for historic preservation and film production.

Notable positions and achievements include:

  • Chairman of the North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus, where he advocated for economic equality, educational justice, and accessible healthcare

Lowe previously served as an adjunct professor at Shaw University Divinity School in Raleigh. He has extensive international experience, having engaged in ministry and missions work in the Bahamas, Germany, Ghana, Korea, the United Kingdom, and South Africa.
