Biography

Paul R. Feeney is a Democratic state senator representing the Bristol and Norfolk district in Massachusetts. Born on March 23, 1978, Feeney was sworn into the Massachusetts Senate in 2017 after winning a special election at age 39. He is currently serving his fifth term in the Senate.

Before his election to the state senate, Feeney worked as a telecommunications technician for over 20 years and served as a member and chairperson of the Select Board in Foxborough. He is also a former Massachusetts licensed pyrotechnician who spent over two decades producing professional fireworks displays throughout the Commonwealth.

Education

Feeney graduated from Don Bosco Technical High School.

Political Experience

Feeney began his political career in local government, serving on the Foxborough Board of Selectmen from 2007 to 2010. In 2005, he took a leave of absence from his telecommunications job to serve as chief of staff to his state senator and predecessor. He later worked as the legislative director for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and served as chief of staff for Jim Timilty. Feeney was also labor director for Stephen F. Lynch's campaign for the United States Senate in the 2013 special election and served as state director of Connecticut and Massachusetts for the Bernie Sanders 2016 presidential campaign.

In the Senate, Feeney holds several leadership positions, including Assistant-Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means and Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Financial Services. He also chairs the Legislature's Manufacturing Caucus, Homelessness Caucus, Libraries Caucus, and Marine Trades Caucus. He is a leading advocate on worker's rights and safety, with a particular focus on economic growth, financial literacy, homeownership expansion, and addressing homelessness through the housing-first model.

His district encompasses the city of Attleboro and the towns of Mansfield, Norton, and North Attleborough in Bristol County, along with the towns of Canton, Foxborough, and Sharon in Norfolk County.
