Biography
Patt Maney is a Republican state representative for Florida House District 4, serving residents of Okaloosa County since his first election in 2020. A longtime resident of Shalimar, Florida, he is a retired U.S. Army Brigadier General, respected judge, father, and attorney with a record of public service spanning military, judicial, and legislative roles.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a BA in Political Science from the University of Kentucky ; later taught as an adjunct professor at the University of West Florida and Okaloosa Walton Community College .
- Military Service: Commissioned as an Army Infantry Second Lieutenant in 1970, served over 36 years in the U.S. Army Reserve including deployments to Panama, Haiti, Bosnia, and Afghanistan; retired as Brigadier General in 2007.
- Judicial Career: Established a private law practice representing working families in the Florida Panhandle; served 29 years as an Okaloosa County Court Judge, where he initiated programs like house arrest, worthless check diversion, Mental Health Court, Veterans Treatment Court, and regular jail sweeps to enhance public safety and reduce jail populations.
- Other Experience: Founding director of a community bank; born Thomas Patterson Maney in Lexington, Kentucky.
- Political Achievements: As state representative, secured funding for environment, infrastructure, education, and workforce development; championed conservative legislation including the Purple Star School Law, reductions in childcare barriers, Veterans Treatment Courts, and in-state postsecondary opportunities for veterans. In 2024, led unanimous passage of major rewrites to the Baker Act and Marchman Act .
