Biography
Patrick Sellers is a Democratic member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing District 57, which includes Pleasant Grove, Hueytown, and communities west of Birmingham. A pastor with over 30 years in ministry, he serves communities at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church and formerly at Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church; he previously worked as an orthopedic first assistant at Children’s of Alabama and served in the U.S. Army and Reserves. Elected in 2022 after winning the Democratic primary and general election with 65% of the vote, his priorities include affordable housing, veteran support, crime reduction, and early childhood literacy. He serves on the House committees for Commerce and Small Business, Insurance, and Local Legislation.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Bachelor of Arts in religion from American Military University; bachelor’s degrees from Birmingham Easonian Baptist Bible College; master’s and doctorate in ministry from Andersonville Theological Seminary .
- Political Experience: Unsuccessfully ran for Alabama House in 2014; elected to District 57 in 2022 as a freshman legislator. Previously involved with organizations including Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority, and SouthWest Community Development Corporation.
